Hi All!
The first couple weeks of October have been super fun, full of new experiences both inside and outside the classroom! The classes have been incredibly welcoming, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the students and staff while learning more about the differences in education from here and in Canada.
One of my highlights was having the opportunity to join the P7 classes (equivalent to Grade 6 in Canada), to their high school orientation. It was interesting to see how the transition works here as students move into high school at the start of Grade 7 and stay through to Grade 12. The orientation was very supportive in preparing students what to expect in their transition, students seemed both excited and a little nervous!
Throughout my time in the classrooms here I have also noticed how student centered the curriculum is, focusing on wellbeing and fostering a positive learning environment. There are many differences between schools here at home in Canada, but one of the biggest ones I’ve seen is the different approaches and strategies to teaching math across the grade levels.
The school had a week-long October break, and Jaleesa and I took the opportunity to take a quick trip to Portugal! It was cheap and easy to get to from Glasgow, we were able to do a boat tour and definitely a once in a lifetime experience!Overall, this experience so far has been amazing, I’ve enjoyed the classroom and travelling around!
Cheers,
Emma:)
