Hola! About a year ago, I was sitting on my couch in Calgary trying to decide whether or not I should apply for the U of C’s Teaching Across Borders Program. Not only was I trying to figure out which countries I wanted to go to, but I was also trying to justify why volunteering abroad for two months was what I needed to do at this point in my life. I remember being so excited thinking about living in a new country but I also remember feeling very overwhelmed with the thought of living without some of my favourite…
Since being on this journey in Madrid, i have found myself often asking/stating a common phrase; “Imagine if we didn’t do this”. Living the life we have been here in Spain, and enjoying all of the amazing activities, views, people and travelling we’ve done, i cannot IMAGINE not having come on TAB. As someone who has traveled my fair share, i had little to no doubts about moving to Spain for 2 months, but i also had no idea what to expect. Looking over our past month here, i don’t think i could have asked for better. We fell into…
I knew that I wanted to come to Spain as soon as I saw this opportunity. There were many moving parts that contributed to my decision, and I am so thankful that I chose Spain. The food, the people, the culture, and the language are just a few things that have made this experience as wonderful as it has been. I am thankful for every single day that I have been here, and we have had many highlights throughout this trip. We have been able to travel, easily, all throughout Spain, fully immerse ourselves in the cultural activities and lifestyle…

Madrid is a dreamy place to be. The people are so friendly and the city extremely welcoming and safe. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings we can hear the changing of the guard from the Royal Palace across from our apartment. In the evenings we can hear beautiful violin music from street performers. Where we live is truly surreal. Some Advice At this…

This journey has not been easy, meaning without challenges and hard days. I mean to say that the process has been with ease. Things here have flown so naturally and becoming accustomed to the lifestyle and the people has come naturally. Not just for me, but I think for all of us. We have been so fortunate to have been paired with each other. Having a support system as strong as ours has…
