PVG Pending, Adventures Ongoing

Hi all!

The first few weeks in Glasgow have been busy but exciting! I have spent some time figuring out how to navigate the transit system, which is a mix of buses, trains, and the subway which are relatively cheap and easy to use! The city is beautiful and full of history, there is always something to do, whether wandering through an art gallery (most of which are free!) or trivia at a local pub!

I’ve also had the chance to explore outside of the city. I took a couple day trips to Edinburgh, which is super easy to get to from Glasgow. I had the opportunity to see the Military Tattoo at the castle, celebrating military history from around the world. It featured piping bands and Highland dancers – definitely worth seeing!

Stirling and Loch Lomond were also fun and easy day trips! Stirling had amazing views from the castle and the old jail was super interesting as most of it has been well preserved so you can take an interactive guided tour through! Loch Lomond is beautiful. I did the Balloch Castle walk and then took a boat tour around the loch, finishing at sunset!

Outside of exploring in and around the city, we also connected with our partner university here, Strathclyde, to get information about our placements and take part in some Freshers’ Week orientation activities alongside other international education students.

Our PVG (the Scottish equivalent police check to Canada) has taken longer than expected to come back, so I’ve been taking the opportunity to enjoy the city and travel whenever I can! Since this is the first year with this placement location, we’re all figuring things out together as we go, but I am looking forward to getting into my placement soon!

Cheers,

Emma 🙂
