Two weeks into Australia, and I cannot wait for more adventures! Our amazing liaison has set up multiple cultural learning opportunities for us to experience Australia’s culture. So far, we have visited the Currumbin Sanctuary, Brisbane’s City Hall Museum and Clock Tower, attended Riverfire, observed some education classes at QUT, and visited the school where we will be volunteering at.
It has been fascinating to see the differences and similarities between Canada’s Indigenous peoples and the Aboriginal people of Australia, especially in how universities in Australia and UofC conduct land acknowledgments. Next week, we will have the chance to dive deeper and learn more about the amazing First Peoples of Australia.
Lastly, I have included three key takeaways that are important to know and remember if you ever visit Australia!
Key Takeaways:
- Walk on the LEFT (if you want to avoid disrupting traffic).
- Three things you should always have on you: sunscreen, a hat, and water.
- Transit in Brisbane is amazing and will be your best friend!
