Settled in Rome!

– Alex and I on the way to the colosseum, strolling through a park by our Airbnb!

Buonanotte everyone!

MacKenna here…

It’s 23:01 in Rome at the moment…

Alex and I have now been back in Rome after our week-long country-wide exploration for just over a day. We had such a great time exploring over Italy and I will post a re-cap of our travels in the coming weeks as well as a photo gallery so you can also enjoy all the sights.

We are settled into our Airbnb in Rome (decently close to the Termini train station which is a BIG plus for transportation around Rome and Italy… you can go almost anywhere by train here).

Alex and I are settling in slowly after having a week of going 100 km/h and are more or less taking Rome day by day. Today (August 29) we explored a bit around our home and also walked to the colosseum… it’s so close!

We’ve gone and gotten all the essential house items (that weren’t included in the Airbnb because we started with a lot) as well as food and beverage essentials. Groceries are so so affordable here, each time we’re shocked by our grocery bill being so low compared to at back home.

We’ve been given our schedule for the first week that we will be at the Rome YMCA which mostly includes what it means to be a teacher in Italy, how we will be working at the Rome YMCA and taking part in a class by a professor at the YMCA who works in Legal Relations of some sort… I will have more details once those days come.

Our Rome YMCA representative has been so kind, caring and accommodating of us, she has recommended sights we see, given us tips for when to see those sights as well as others, checked in on our travels and well-being and encourages us to continue working on our Italian!

Although this is just the beginning of this journey, Alex and I feel so ignited for this experience to come to its full potential and to see what it holds for our pedagogical practice as well as how it will shape us as people…

Ciao for now!
