Hello!!
I’ve officially been in the country for one whole month and let me tell you, I have lots to say about it!
When I first heard that I was accepted to my TAB placement back in February, I started making plans to come to Australia early so that I could make the most of this opportunity. Since arriving I’ve travelled through almost every state and seen nearly every crazy Australian animal you can think of, aside from a koala. On one of my camping trips, I saw a spider so big that it’s eyes reflected when I shone a flashlight on it, the same way a cat’s would! Luckily, I’ve also seen whales closer to shore than even seems possible, I’ve gotten a bit too up close and personal with a kookaburra, and I can’t even begin count how many kangaroos I’ve seen. Now, I should clarify that these things didn’t happen to me directly in the city of Brisbane, but I think it’s important to write about these experiences in my blog because TAB opens the door to international travel of all sorts, and Brisbane is a gateway to so many beautiful places.
In terms of the actual TAB placement and getting settled in the city, our host professor has been so helpful! She is incredibly detail oriented and has made sure we have something to do almost every day while we wait for our Blue Card to be processed. That being said, we have also had lots of time to explore the city. Some noteworthy sights/things to do so far:
- Walking along Southbank
- Brisbane Riverfire Festival
- QUT Botanical Gardens
- Mt. Coot-tha lookout
- Taking the bus to the Gold Coast
- West Side Markets
- Eat Street
