I am officially halfway done with my TAB experience in Germany and have had a blast! The students at Bergedorf Hansa-Gymnasium have been so kind and excited that I’m here! While I was observing a 5th grade class, I got to help them with English grammar and read out sentences! They are so curious about Canada and ask about it all the time. I am about to start teaching for an 8th grade geography classroom and I am so excited to be able to talk about Canadian topography and its beautiful landscape. Not to worry, I included some of my own pictures of Alberta and the Rocky Mountains for good representation!
This past weekend I decided to take a solo trip to the wonderful city of Dresden and got to see its beautiful architecture and learn about its history. The one thing I love about being placed in Germany is that ever single building or monument in any city or county has a rich historical past that I know I will be able to use in my future classroom back home. Dresden got heavily bombed in the Second World War and the city decided to rebuild its beautiful architecture a few decades later and I am so grateful to be able to see it! Below is a photo of a church that was destroyed and rebuilt in 2005!
Next weekend, I plan on going to Berlin! I’ve been a few times and each experience seemingly brings something new. This past week as well, the University of Hamburg took us to the Kunsthalle museum and I spent almost 3 hours there, looking at the amazing historical and modern art! Below is a picture of the museum!
The biggest takeaway with Teaching Across Borders is that it teaches me to be resilient and quick on my feet. From solo travelling to trying to work through the German English language barrier, I cannot wait to go into my next practicum and tell my students about the experience and use the resilience I taught myself in the future!
