Family, food, and fun!

I was fortunate enough to have my parents visit me in Hamburg because they had a long weekend! They flew in from Saudi and we spent the weekend trying new foods, visiting all the touristy spots, seeing a few museums, and even did a day trip to Berlin. Their favourite part (except for seeing me of course) was seeing all the historical churches and buildings such as St. Michaels. There is so much history and depth to Germany that I have been learning something new with every turn. The students and people are so open to showing me and teaching me more, they even have made a list of different foods/restaurants that I have to try before I leave. I have tried a few so far and have loved them all.

From the classic German foods, doner, pretzels, and the fish have been excellent. Speaking of classic German things, I was fortunate enough to head down to Munich and experience Oktoberfest. Though it did not disappoint, it reminded me lots of a German stampede. Lots of people dressed up, beer tents, food carts, and very VERY expensive. Nonetheless, extremely fun! You get to meet lots of people, I went with my friend who lives in Berlin and her sister. It was a great time and I now have a new favourite dress, my dirndl.

Finally, last weekend I spent it in Oslo, Norway visiting my aunt and uncle. They have lived there for over 10 years and absolutely love it. I thought it was gorgeous but quite small and does not have as much history to it compared to most European cities and this is because it burned down a couple hundred years ago so they had to rebuild it from scratch. It is beautiful, right on the water so full of boats, and more expensive than any city I have seen so far. The best part about being with there were the homemade meals and the fun company. It was nice to relax and be with family that I hadn’t seen in six years and just catch up and get to know each other again in a way.

The travels will continue but until next time,
