I decided to fly directly to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival before heading to Glasgow and I’m so glad I did!
Edinburgh is GORGEOUS and incredibly clean. My friend and her cousin, who lives there, picked me up from the airport, and we kicked things off with a strong coffee to fight the jet lag. We explored the Royal Mile, wandered through the streets looking at the castles and monuments, and grabbed lunch. Also tried a Scottish Egg (not a fan lol). The city was packed with tourists and street performers, which made the whole place feel so lively.
That evening, I went to my first ceilidh (kay-lee) which is a traditional Scottish partner and group dancing. Basically, Scottish line dancing, and SO much fun!
The next day we visited the Puffin Sauna, a cedar sauna with cold plunges, which was amazing. And finished the afternoon with lunch at Teuchters Landing, a cozy dockside pub that I HIGHLY recommend. That night, we saw the Fringe show called Sophie’s Surprise 29th, 10/10! Acrobatics, comedy, and incredible performances.
The next day, I took the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow, which was super easy. My bus adventure to our new place was less successful, I got off at the wrong stop and eventually gave up and took an Uber.
It felt so good to finally settle in, it was absolutely gorgeous out today, so sunny. After unpacking, we explored Buchanan Street and Merchant City. We stopped at a pub for fries and a beer, grabbed groceries, and finished the day with dinner at Bella Italia, which had good sized portions and lots of gluten-free options which is always a win for me!
As for school, our PVG process still isn’t finished since we had a few final steps to complete after arriving in Scotland. We have an introduction meeting this Thursday, so hopefully we’ll get updates on our PVGs, teaching locations, grades, subjects, and everything else.
So far, Scotland has been pretty great 🙂
