It’s been 6 weeks of being in Vietnam. I can say that I feel more and more at home here. My favorite places to go to are the local markets. Local markets, oh lovely local markets, let’s talk about them. I buy tons of fruit here and I have a very small fridge in my room therefore I hang all these bags on hangers and then I hang the hangers to the drapery rods. My room looks funny that way, but that’s the only place where the fruit little crawlers which are not flies cause they just crawl don’t invade my fruit. I didn’t feel like going out for dinner today (great call, cause the rain started and its suppose to rain a lot today, plus my favorite My Quang place closes at 2pm) so I got my dinner in a bag, because that’s what you get here for a take out, and I hung it up also. So now I’m looking at my dinner but it’s not time to eat it yet, funny I don’t do these things in Canada. Aaaahhh, I might eat my dinner before dinner time. I just disinfected my table and there’s little crawlers again, I don’t know why. Everything is in abundance here.
It’s time to talk about the wet markets, the smell is unbelievable, I see all the seafood that I would love to eat but there’s nothing I can do about it because I don’t cook here I wouldn’t know how to cook it and I don’t have a kitchen or ingredients to cook it with. I did take some pictures some snakes, frogs, shrimp, huge snails, different kinds of fish swordfish and who knows what else.
I figured out the bus situation in the city and riding the bus is always an adventure, meeting the locals, smiling and trying to communicate with them is always fun.
The students at school are really cute, we are constantly surrounded by them, they want to touch us, hug us, high five us, and there’s no shortage of “Hello Teacher”.
More to come, Carmen
