Cockatoos, Bin chickens, and Elephant’s foot

Unlike other TAB placements, we only get to start on September 30th due to having to obtain Blue Cards and the schools being on holiday. But while we have been waiting, we’ve had the chance to dive into Australian culture thanks to the activities set up by our liaison. Over the last two weeks in particular, we had a guided tour on Indigenous Australian art, learned about First Nations in a class designed for us, and even got to attend QUT education courses. This alone has been a rich learning experience that added many activities to my teaching toolbox!

However, one of the coolest things about being in Australia (especially as a biologist) is seeing its diverse flora and fauna. It’s wild to see plants I buy at IKEA thriving everywhere in the city on a massive scale (I’ve attached pictures as a reference).

So, to all the animal and plant lovers out there, Australia is for you!
