Hi everyone!!!
Field trip!!
What an amazing two weeks here in Vietnam. In the past two weeks, we had many opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities with the students at Le Dinh China primary school. The fifth graders had a field trip to Hoi An (a city near us), where we got to explore VinWonder which included a safari boat tour, a zoo, and some amazing art museums. The students had the opportunity to practice their English with us in conversations and asking about our personalities. It was amazing as students had questions prepared and practiced prior to the field trip, so that they felt confident and ready to ask! After VinWonder, we went to a Resort where students partook in team building activities. While students did some team building with the hosts, the teachers, principle, and us went to the beach and took many group photos and videos! It was amazing to see how excited and happy the teachers were with each other. We danced, laughed, smiled and definitely threw in some cartwheels. Overall, this field trip was one of my favourite experiences with the students thus far!
Hoi An
After the field trip, Bianca and I decided to treat ourselves to a trip in Hoi An where we enjoyed the beautiful lanterns and culture in the streets. The highlight of this trip was definitely going to the Memory show where the actors showcased the history of Hoi An in an interactive outdoor theatre. It was beautiful to see the history of Hoi An, the struggles, the love, and the culture of the city we were staying in.
MC Hiba!!!
After the trip, we were told that the English team is starting to host an English club at the school! To begin the English club, I was asked to MC the first assembly with the entire school. My focus was to ask questions in English to the students targeted at different grades, and engage with the school by singing a song and dancing! It was amazing to be on stage and interacting with the students and staff! The students were highly engaged and loved to participate.
Festival
In addition to the English club, Le Dinh Chinh primary school started a Festival called “I am a global citizen” where one student is chosen to represent their class for each of the four prompts. We were judges where each student from each class would come prepared in costume, presentation, and artifact to present on their prompt. For example, the last prompt was “I and STEM”, and so each student came prepared with a presentation about a STEM project they created, along with the physical STEM project to show the audience. The entire presentation is in English, and so we are to judge the students on the content of their presentation, their pronunciation, their design, and whether they were within the time limit. We still have one more session and then the winners will be chosen! This is definitely an amazing festival to be a part of, especially since we get to see the students we work with each day in English class, put their English skills to the test! The growth is phenomenal and every time one of my students come on stage I get super happy and emotional, since I have seen their growth in English first hand.
