Well, it’s been officially one month since I’ve been in Sapporo! This experience has allowed me to see the culture, explore the city, and visit the “tourist sites”. But most importantly, I was able to see how elementary and junior high schools work in Japan!
Let’s start with the first week, to getting lost at Sapporo Station, hopping on the train and using Google Maps and Google Translate wherever I go. It was definitely an adventure. During this week, it was a relaxing week of going around seeing the pretty views and eating delicious food.
Now off to week 2! Japanese classes, and seminar visits. Hmm…. I gotta take the subway and a bus to school. Nice. But that bus ride was rocky. This is the week I started taking my bus naps so I don’t get nauseous. Starting to learn Japanese was definitely a challenge but an amazing experience! Genki desu ka? Sumimasen, and ohayo gozaimus! Woahh I learned a couple phrases. Yippeee!
Week 3! More delicious food and fun! But I did start cooking a bit because I am missing my comfort food! I made kimchi fried rice, and pasta! Besides my food, we went to the Otaru Aquarium. Funny story, I tried to feed a seal with fish, and unfortunately, it hit the seals head instead. Woops, my bad.
Week 4, this week we finished Japanese lessons and essentially phase 1 of the program. This experience has really allowed me to see the schools and all the differences. The teacher staff room and the school lunch for the students. It is really interesting! Overall, that is a wrap on phase 1! See you later!
