And just like that our time in Madrid has almost come to an end. It’s hard to believe how quickly these past few weeks have flown by. Seriously, I feel as though I was just packing my bags at the end of August. Volunteering at the school here has been an unforgettable experience, one that has not only allowed me to learn and grow as an individual but also to connect with so many incredible students and educators. The city itself has been a vibrant backdrop to this short chapter, with its busy streets, rich history, museums and welcoming people.
Just yesterday, I took the opportunity to visit Toledo, an old medieval town just a short train ride away from Madrid. It was absolutely breathtaking. Walking through the medieval streets, visiting the grand Toledo Cathedral, and soaking in the panoramic views from the Mirrador del Valle hilltop—it felt like stepping into another era. Toledo’s blend of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish influences made the city feel like a living museum, and I found myself inspired by its timeless beauty and history. As I described it to my mom on the phone, it looked like it was out of a Disney movie ( I wish I could post some photos but feel free to google it if you are interested). It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on my time in Spain.
As I prepare to return home, I’m filled with a sense of gratitude. This experience has been much more than just teaching across boarders—it has been about cultural exchange, self-discovery, and gaining a deeper appreciation for life in different contexts. The memories I’ve made, the friendships I’ve built, and the lessons I’ve learned will stay with me as I move forward in my journey as an individual and educator. Madrid has become like a second home, and leaving it behind will be bittersweet. But as this chapter ends, I know that the experiences I’ve had here will continue to shape my path ahead. That being said, I am excited to be going home and to see my family and doggy!
It has been a pleasure reading everyones posts over the last two months!
