Butterflies and Bush Turkeys

Spring has officially sprung here in Brisbane, and with it comes an explosion of beauty—along with a few creepy crawlers. One of the highlights of my daily walks has been seeing the city draped in trees covered with delicate, light purple flowers. It’s stunning how the landscape transforms. Even the variety of birds is amazing. Although I have to admit, the wild bush turkeys are not my favourite—they roam around so casually that it creeps me out a bit! On a lighter note, one of my favourite pastimes has been watching flocks of butterflies flutter by. It’s truly like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The sheer number and variety are mesmerizing, and it makes each walk feel magical. Outside of walking, my free time has been filled with some fantastic activities—hiking, lounging on the beach, and of course, swimming in the ocean. I’ve swallowed more salt water than I’d like to admit over the past few weeks, but the thrill of catching waves makes it worth it every time.

We’re now two weeks into our practicum at the beautiful Kelvin Grove State College, and I’ve already learned so much. This has been a valuable experience, and I’ve added several new tools to my teaching toolkit that I’m excited to use in the future. It’s incredible how time is flying by, but they say that’s what happens when you’re having fun!

There’s no shortage of things to do in Brisbane. This coming weekend, we’re heading to Warner Bros. Movie World for a Halloween Fright Night adventure, followed by catching a performance of Wicked at the Lyric Theatre. On the quieter days, you can usually find me in South Bank, soaking up the sun, enjoying a good book, and taking in the stunning city views.

It’s bittersweet to think that I only have two weeks left in this beautiful paradise. While I’ll be sad to leave it all behind, I’m also looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family and diving into Field 3. Time truly does fly when you’re living in the moment!
