Over the last 2 weeks, we were able to visit a few more schools as a group and take part in English conversations with students. Students were always very excited to practice what they learned in class with native speakers. We also got the chance to teach grade 9 students games like Simon Says and Duck, Duck, Goose. In return, we learned about Japanese games like Kendama and Otedama. We also had the opportunity to see different places around Sapporo like Otaru, Shiraoi and Tomakomai. What stood out the most was our field trip to Upopoy, the National Ainu Museum where we learned about the Indigenous people of Hokkaido.
In the coming weeks I’ll have the chance to join more English classes at different schools affiliated with the University. I am looking forward to seeing if there are different methods and strategies used to teach English that I could adopt.
