The first two weeks in Hamburg I took to settle in and familiarize myself to everything in the city. The neighbourhood we live in is called Winterhude and thankfully it is very central and there are multiple restaurants and grocery stores just down the street.
- “Moin” is a greeting specific to Hamburg!
- Franzbrotchen – Cinnamon roll + Croissant (specific to Hamburg!)
- German Sausages: Krakauer and Bratwurst (tasted like Costco polish dog, breakfast sausage)
- German soft drinks
- Fritz (Hamburg specific!) – Cola, melon, orange, apple
- Mixed Fanta and Coke – Spezi
Some activities I have done so far:
- Explore the small town of Lubeck (1 hour away from Hamburg) – Marzipan Museum, Castles, Cathedrals.
- Shopping in Rathaus – they call this “townhall”, it’s like downtown with a big mall called Europa passage and stores along the street like Uniqlo, Zara, H&M, Sephora, Faber-Castell (stationary store), etc.
- Visited the University of Hamburg.
- Saw a classical music concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg – Yo-Yo Ma in a trio!
- Canoeing in the canals during sunset.
- Hosted a birthday party at the house for Jenica’s birthday!
We are just getting settled into our school placements, so I will update on that next post!
