Bon Voyage!

Tomorrow I will be departing for my Teaching Across Borders experience. While we don’t begin our work in the school until August 30, I am boarding a flight tomorrow evening to Paris. For the next two weeks, I will be journeying around France and a bit of Spain before ending up in Madrid to begin my placement.

This summer has been a whirlwind of preparation and I don’t think I will feel the reality of the situation until I am sitting on that plane. Maybe not even until I am walking the streets of Paris and looking up at the Eiffel Tower. Maybe it takes eating that first crepe from a street vendor for it really to start feeling real? The jury is out on that one, I’ll get back to you!

Today I sat on my tiny suitcase while my sister tugged on the zipper, desperate for it to close and regretting my decision to travel for 2.5 months with a carry-on. I went to Bowness Park for my last full day and felt grateful for my life in Calgary, and excitement about the things to come. Today I dealt with many internal struggles, from wanting to cancel the whole thing and stay home, to laughing and picturing myself walking the streets of Madrid. It is safe to say that the Venn diagram of things I am nervous about and things I am excited about is a perfect circle.

Soon enough I will be meeting up with the my TAB girls at our apartment in Madrid and we will begin familiarizing ourselves with the city we will call home for two months. I can’t wait for that day, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you all.
